Big box stores are not all they are cracked up to be.

When I first went into business, like most people, I got my supplies at Lowes, or Home Depot.  The first time I bought material for a service upgrade it took me 2 hours, and was $800 dollars.  It was a frustrating experience, because no one there really knew what was going on.

The next time I purchased material for the same kind of job, I went to one of the local supply houses. It took me 15 minutes, and nearly $200 less than Lowes.  I was amazed.

The reality is that the smaller specialty stores are where the professionals shop, and for good reason. The thing is, an average homeowner will make out better there too.  If you are buying any kind of light or fan for your house, you will find that their selection is better.

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, say, Dimming Fluorescent lights for example, the small stores will sell you something that will actually work.

You are more likely to get what you really need. 
I am not specifically promoting I.D. Booth here. 
Freidman Electric,  or Fingerlakes Electric, will all treat you better than the big guys.

You will save a lot of time (especially over Home Depot, who run on a skeleton crew).
You might save some money.

Heck, you don't have to walk so far either.
